Following are highlights of the OMC 2.0.0 product component enhancements:

OMC-PRINT Release 5.0.0 New Enhancements:

  1. Utilization of the Subsystem API (SAPI) for all supported MVS releases:
    • Multi-threaded vs. single-threaded operation allows processing requests to be concurrently issued from multiple tasks, increasing performance and efficiency.
    • Extended dataset information now available on processed output including status, description, selection criteria, etc., for more detailed processing visibility and control.
  2. Further exploitation of 31 bit storage for high performance, efficient operation:
    • Expands the number of supported active devices per region to approximately 21 times the current number of printers for dramatically improved operational efficiency and increased performance.
  3. Output RE-QUEUE, DELETE, and HOLD now performed via SAPI where possible for greater output control:
    • Control output beyond group level down to dataset level.
    • Option to request SYSOUT never be returned to OMC-PRINT.
  4. Buffer handling enhanced for greater output processing flexibility:
    • Provides more efficient processing of larger SYSOUT sizes to effectively manage a wider variety of host output.
  5. Full 8 Character FORM names and 18 character DEST names supported:
    • Expanded form and destination name support provides greater flexibility in print routing configuration and administration.
  6. Model printer definitions and masks enable dynamic print device definition, and provide on-the-fly output routing to previously undefined printers:
    • Model printer definitions facilitate ad-hoc printing requests and hardware changes, as well as simplifying print device configuration and administration.
    • A dynamic, variable printer definition is created by matching on a name mask using the characters and * as wild cards in the printer name.
    • The first match will cause a printer to be defined using the model definition as a template, and the print request will be processed successfully.
  7. Enhanced Command Display Facility (CDF) delivers greater flexibility & ease of use:
    • MAXWTR=9999 allows unlimited numbers of printers to be concurrently active, (based on system storage availability), for maximum print routing throughput.
    • MAXWTR=0 prevents activating new printers, effectively quiescing the region, and ensuring host system resource limits are protected.
    • CDF option CON=Y expanded to allow specification of any combination of FORM, FCB and/or UCS for greater print routing flexibility.
    • Displays are now left / right scrollable for greater ease of use.
    • Printers may be sorted to streamline administration.
    • The CDF CORELATE and Printer Definition displays now prompt users to save any modifications, reducing human error and ensuring changes are applied.
    • The CDF is now available in a User oriented view that displays only “end-user appropriate” options within the CDF, allowing CDF utilization to be safely distributed to end-user departments.
    • A separate CDF Administrator view is provided for authorized users, and contains all options and actions necessary to configure and manage OMC-PRINT output processing, print devices, and the printing environment.
  8. Support for Dataset Resource Class enables definition of security resource names to better meet installation security standards.
  9. DDname of datasets are now included on messages for better identification.
  10. Support for Job numbers up to 999,999.
  11. Dynamic loading of optional user created modules such as TSPUSRXT, TSPSAFXT, and TSPBANNR to streamline installation and configuration.
  12. Improved TSPDEF error handling:
    • “TSPDEF not located” message is now issued.
    • If TSPDEF or the name specified in ALTDEF parameter is not found, default to ALTDEF=* (definitions from TSPDEF dataset) will be automatically utilized to ensure continued processing.
  13. FEATURE parameter in the TSPOPTS assembly now allows quick and easy activation of many options:
    • NOTIFY message for normal and/or GDDM print completion.
    • Obtain USERID and password from VTAM logon CINIT.
    • JES – Issuing R Command will remove job from wait Queue.
    • Sort printer names alphabetically.
    • Requeue jobs with AFP data to JES OPER hold status.
    • Change default UCS to blanks for new users.
    • Change default UCS for existing printers.
    • Change SIMLOGON timeout from 2 minutes to 1 minute.
    • Always set security logging on.
    • Provide USERID/password for non-VTAM users.
    • Drop brackets before trailing banner is produced.
    • Add started task name to user name in display.
    • Force SLD command to be sent.
    • Allow mixed cases in messages.
    • Examine output on the Wait Queue destined to the printer requested for deletion in CDF 6.2.
    • Use original ISTATUS when saving configuration.
    • Use "OMCPRINT" as logical device name in SMF type 6 records.
    • Use default FCB if specified FCB is not found.
    • Terminate writer on excessive errors.
  14. A storage monitoring facility is now available to display storage utilization.
  15. Version checking is done on user modified modules to avoid incompatibility.
  16. Additional printer parameters added to further customize output.
  17. Expanded Wait Queue display to better identify and locate output.
  18. Extension products, OMC-TCP/IP, OMC-VIEW, OMC-VNI, can be added without code modification facilitating rapid implementation.
  19. SMP/E installation and maintenance support:
    • Common install of all OMC extension products.
    • Extension products activated via passwords for quick implementation.
  20. z/OS operating system support through z/OS Release 1.11.

    • One asterisk (*) can be used as a wild card for several characters within a printer name.
    • The first match found will cause a printer to be defined using the model definition as a template, and the print request will be processed successfully.
  7. Support for LPD queue names of up to 64 characters.
  8. Enhanced “Get Host by Name” function is reentrant.
  9. Expanded diagnostic messages to report TCP/IP errors and expedite recovery.
